Muslin Swaddle Blankets

As some of you know we had a new baby in July. She is a good baby, as long as she is swaddled and the perfect temperature. I never used muslin swaddle blankets with my first child, he was born in the fall when the whether is chilly so we just bought stretchy thermal blankets and used them to swaddle him. However, with this second baby I wanted something lighter weight since she was born in the middle of summer. We've tried four different brands of swaddle blankets - Aden + Anais, Summer, Lambie and Me, and we have one no name blanket that I purchased from a Co-Op.

My favorite has been the Lambie and Me blankets that I received through Tomoson.com to review on my blog (and no I am not just saying that for the review); they are larger than the other brands and they didn't shrink as much in the laundry (they are 47"x47" before washing). They are soft and stretchy and the fabric feels high quality. The fabric is light weight and strong and has held up well over multiple washings and daily use. I use them for everything - swaddling, as a nursing cover, as a regular blanket, as a burp cloth, and even to cover the carseat to keep the sun out of baby's eyes. I have a hard time covering up when nursing because most blankets always fall of my shoulder but these work great - they are large enough that I can wrap it around me to hold it in place and still cover the my front and baby completely. I wish I had 4 more of these!

The photo below is of our newborn at about 12 pounds and 6 weeks old (I guess she's about 24-25 inches long, but that is just a guess). The Lambie and Me swaddle blanket is folded in half and wrapped around here and it still hangs down past her feet.

My least favorite ones are the Summer brand that I purchased at Wal-Mart. They were  cheaper than the rest, but they are significantly smaller than the other blankets and now that my baby is 11 pounds, they are almost too small for her. They are 40"x40" before washing. Sorry that I don't have a photo of one of these blankets on my little one - every time I try to take a picture I can't find a clean one. Right now when I fold one of the Summer swaddle blankets in half and wrap it around her (like in the photo above), it barely covers her feet. Here is a photo of the blankets that I bought:

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

  1. I have a muslin blanket my MIL gave to me and I love it, I have no clue what the brand name is. :S But since I have big babies (DH is 6'7") I'm going to have to pick at least one of these up for the new baby. Thanks for the review.
