My Review and Star Ratings:
Leak Prevention (The Cover)
This cover does a great job containing newborn messes. We’ve been using it for a little over a month now and we haven’t had any leaks with it. This cover has actually converted me to loving covers and prefolds for daytime use. I love using this cover over fitted diapers (which is how we mainly use it because my daughter is such a heavy wetter).
Absorbency (The Prefold)
The Sweet Pea prefold (newborn size) is soft and absorbent. It works great for day time use with our heavy wetter. My daughter wets so much she soaks through three of the insert that I made out of flannel and zorb usually within 15 minutes. With the Sweet Pea newborn sized prefold, we can usually go about an hour before it is completely saturated. Combined with the cover we haven’t had any leak issues. I would love it if they made their inserts stay dry though because my newborn hates to feel wet.
Fit and Size
The Sweet Pea newborn diaper cover fit our newborn great. I started using this cover when she was 4 days old and 6 pounds 8 ounces and 20 inches long and it fit great using the snap down rise. I was worried about it touching her umbilical cord, but the snap down rise made it the perfect size and it did not bother her. She is now approximately 10 pounds and the diaper cover still fits, just without using the rise snaps.
The cover comes in many different prints and colors to match any outfit. I love the paisley and the owl prints! See all prints on the Sweet Pea Diaper’s website here.
As of 8/26/14 the newborn covers are $9.99 USD and the newborn prefolds are $33 per dozen ($2.75 each). This is a super affordable way to cloth diaper a newborn, especially considering that the covers can be reused for more than one diaper change as long as they are not soiled.
I love this newborn cover! It fits great and we haven’t had any leaks because of the double gussets and the hook and loop closure. I can use it for more than one diaper change as long as it isn’t soiled, it is easy to get on and off, and it is very affordable. The Sweet Pea newborn cover has been a great choice for our family to cloth diapering a newborn. A friend once told me that covers and inserts were her favorite way to cloth diaper a newborn – I’m sure I looked at her like she was crazy because I thought it was too old fashioned to work well, but because of the Sweet Pea newborn cover I am converted to the ease of use of covers and prefolds (and over fitted diapers) on a newborn.
