{review} Uno's Hiney Huggers OS Side Snapping AI2 Cloth Diaper

Sarah is a WAHM from North Carolina. She has two little ones and she enjoys sewing and loves making cloth diapers. She makes various types of cloth diapers (AIO, AI2, pocket, hybrid fitted), training pants, John Johns (rompers), wool dryer balls, and heating pads.

The Diaper
The diaper that Uno’s Hiney Hugger’s sent me to review is her new OS side snapping AI2 cloth diaper. It has a cotton outer, a hidden layer of PUL, and a cotton velour inner. The snap in soaker is made of a layer of zorb, sandwiched between two layers of bamboo, and topped with matching cotton velour.

The diaper closes using snap closures and has three rise snaps for a custom extra small, small, medium, and large fit.

My Review and Star Ratings:

Absorbency
Toddler Night Time (with extra inserts)

Toddler Nap Time Use (no extra inserts)

Toddler Nap Time Use (with extra insert)
We have used this diaper for nap time and for night time use with my 2.5 year old toddler. It works good for nap time but it does not work very well for night time. For nap time we did have to add an extra insert for my heavy wetter toddler. For night time, even when I added two extra inserts, we still had a lot of wicking leaks, even after the diaper was fully prepped. However, Uno’s Hiney Hugger’s designed this diaper for daytime use. I do think the diaper will work well for daytime use and I’ll update this review when my newborn (who should be here anytime in the next few weeks) can wear it.

Fit and Size
The diaper fit my 25 pound 36 inch tall skinny toddler best on the highest rise setting and on the smallest waist setting. It fit very well around the legs and we didn’t have any gaps anywhere. It is a tad bit wide through the bum area (see Fitting Your Fluff photos below).

I’m worried that it won’t fit our new baby for a while - I think the diaper is super adjustable in the rise, but I think the waist is going to be really big for a long time. I’ll update this review with photos as I get them.

Thickness/Bulkiness
The diaper itself is not thick but the insert is pretty thick. The insert is 4 layers – 1 layer of zorb sandwiched between two layers of bamboo, topped with a layer of cotton velour. Although it is thick, I like the insert because it gives plenty of coverage in the front (see photo below) and back and is narrow between the legs. The diaper fits really well between the legs. My toddler hates it when his diapers are too bulky between the legs (he tells me they are too tight).

 Aesthetic Design
I like the cuteness of the diaper. Sarah did a great job choosing a fabric for us that is gender neutral and will work good on both my toddler son and our newborn baby girl. I love the different colored snaps!

 Sewing Quality
For the most part the sewing quality looks pretty good – the stitching looks nice and it has held up over multiple washings. The only issues we had is that there was a small hole in the outer cotton on the tummy flap near the leg elastic. It was only about 1/4” long so I just quickly sewed it with my sewing machine.  The other issue we have had is that the stitching on the insert is coming apart on one edge after multiple washings. I don’t have a problem fixing things like this since I know how to sew. I hope Uno’s Hiney Huggers inspects their diapers just a little more before sending them out in the future.

 Price
The average retail value for Uno’s Hiney Huggers One Size Side Snapping AI2 cloth diaper is $18. As long as the quality assurance improves, I think this is an average price for this WAHM cloth diaper.

 Overall
Although I enjoyed working with Uno’s Hiney Huggers and I hope to try more of their diapers in the future, this is not the diaper I reach for the most. The fit is a tad awkward on my toddler son and it is not as absorbent as I need for him. Hopefully it will get used more with our baby girl as a daytime diaper once she gets here. Personally, I think this diaper would work a bit better if it didn’t have a cotton outer and only had a layer of PUL on the outside (this would avoid some of the wicking leaks we have had). This is a brand new pattern and diaper that Uno's Hiney Huggers has started making so I look forward to see what she tweeks in the future with it.

  7. I am new to the cloth diapering world - at least, the current version of it. 27 years ago, cloth diapering was very different. I'm researching again, because my son and daughter-in-law are in the "trying to have a baby" stage ~ I know cloth diapering can potentially save them much money, but I don't know how excited they will be about it - so I am arming myself with information. I appreciate your very honest reviews - you tell both the positive and negative, and you do it in a very non-mean (if that is a word) way when you discuss the aspects you didn't like so much. I don't know if I would like side snaps either, but I do appreciate the elimination of some of the bulkiness between the legs.

    1. All it took was a few zig zag stitches on my sewing machine to sew everything back in place :) I love minky diapers too! I've never tried them until I started using WAHM diapers and now I'm hooked!

  11. I really like her spaceship hybrid diaper! We've tried side snapping diapers before. They fit great, but the problem we typically have is since boys pee up from the wings tend to wick since they are inside instead of outside. But I bet they would work really well for girls since they pee down! lol
